Mike trains Eve for Special Ops, but it turns into a contest. Ryan’s strike puts a lot of stress on his relationship with Kristen.
Eve and Mike
We already know Eve is a member of JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) while in high school. Eve wants to be in Special Ops, and Mike is “training” her for the field by sneaking up on her. Each time she turns around, Mike has attached a clip onto her back. Time and time again
Eve tries to sneak up on Mike, but each time he gets her back. Exasperated, Eve finally calls it quits and Mike is declared the winner.
Ryan v. John Baker
Ryan is on strike with the workers’ union. Ryan really believes that he and his coworkers deserve more money and better benefits, but the absence of his paycheck is weighing heavily on Kristen. She feels like he does not care for and appreciate their family. When Ryan appears at the restaurant and insults Kristen’s boss (John Baker), Kristen is even more exasperated. More and more, she compares Ryan to John Baker. In addition, John is complimenting and flirting with Kristen. Kristen flirts back, and John starts to kiss her. Kristen does leave, but not before admitting she thinks he is attractive. Then Kristen is forced to borrow more money from her mom so that Boyd can go on a school trip. When Ryan tells her that the union was offered a deal but refused to accept it, Kristen reaches her limit. She kicks Ryan out of the apartment. After a talk with Kristen’s parents (and some rather sarcastic comments on Mike’s part), Ryan realizes that
although strikes are important and can get results, he also has a responsibility to provide for his family. He states that he will take any job he can get.
Mandy goes over to talk to Kristen. Kristen admits that she and her boss almost kissed, but says she still loves Ryan. Mandy takes her over to The Outdoor Man…where Ryan is working as a janitor. Having decided to take any job that will contribute to the household income, Ryan accepted a minimum wage night shift with Mike as his supervisor. Seeing his commitment to care for her and Boyd, Kristen and Ryan make up.
