The X Factor – Live Show 1: Motown Night [Season 3, Episodes 13 & 14]

In the first of the live shows, thirteen contestants performed and one of them will be eliminated.  Because of a screw-up of the live vote, the contestants had to sing twice!  Results will be posted next week.

Josh Levi was brought back from elimination! This time, he ditched the dance routine and focused on proving he has the voice for this competition. Both of Josh’s performances were fantastic! His Motown song was Jackson 5’s “Who’s Loving You”.  Josh’s second performance is below:

Rachel Potter sang country Motown.  View Rachel’s performance here and her second performance here.

In Carlos Guevara’s first performance, the judges felt he lacked energy and emotion.  In his second performance, Carlos did a much better job of connecting with the audience. View the second performance here.

Restless Road country-fied Motown in their first performance. Restless Road blends so well together.  They sound like a group that has been together for years instead of a few weeks. View their second performance here.

Ellona Santiago killed it with a Motown performance of “Baby Love”.  View Ellona’s first performance here. In her second performance, Ellona sang “Titanium”.  She sounded great, but I couldn’t help comparing her to last year’s contestant Beatrice Miller.  Beatrice had more tone to her voice.

Jeff Gutt rocked Motown with Lionel Richie’s “Say You, Say Me”.  View Jeff’s first performance here and his second performance here.

Alex & Sierra put their own unique spin on “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”. The audience loved it.  Alex & Sierra’s performance is below:

Khaya Cohen showed a sassy side with her performance of “My Girl”.  Khaya’s performance is below:

Khaya once again killed the vocals in her second performance, which you can view here.

Carlito Olivero sang ballads this week.  View Carlito’s first performance here and his second performance here.

Lillie McCloud worried about being seen as too dated, but she put on a performance that brought Simon back to her side.  View Lillie’s first performance here and her second performance here.

Sweet Suspense put on a dance performance the first night, which you can view here.  Their backup song contained more difficult vocals and harmonies. I usually put videos of the best performances, but I will add this one in as well. Sweet Suspense is not perfect yet, but they can be.  Each of them has a great voices.  With more practice and more time they would be amazing together. Sweet Suspense’s second performance is below:

Rion Paige’s first song was “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”.  For her second performance she sang “Born This Way”.  View Rion’s first performance here and her second performance here.

Tim Olstad showed off his timeless voice in both of his performances and Simon took back his criticism from last week.  View Tim’s first performance here and his second performance here.

Hope you voted for your favorite contestant! Results will be aired in next week’s episode.
