Last Man Standing, Season 3, Episode 5, Recap: Haunted House

Vanessa is in charge of the Haunted House for Boyd’s school, but her creation scares Boyd. Eve is forever directing sarcastic comments toward Mandy; this time Mandy strikes back.

Boyd

Halloween is coming up and Vanessa and Kristen have volunteered to run the Haunted House for Boyd’s school. Vanessa is feeling the rush from her own PTA days. She plans the whole Haunted House by herself. Kristen warns that children can be sensitive, but Vanessa makes it as scary as possible. After the Haunted House is finished, Vanessa dresses as a witch and leads Boyd, Kristen and Ryan through. Boyd is fine for a bit, but he gets terrified when he encounters a giant drop-down spider. He runs out screaming. Kristen’s first instinct is to shield Boyd and keep him home from the school the next day, but Mike reminds Kristen of the times he helped her face her own fears. He convinces Kristen to let him talk to Boyd. Mike shows Boyd the catalog of Halloween decorations used in the Haunted House and reassures Boyd that they can walk through together. The next day, Boyd decides that he will face his fears by walking through alone, repeating the catalog information for each item as he goes.

Eve and Mandy

Throughout each season of Last Man Standing, Eve has continually made detrimental comments regarding Mandy’s intelligence and has found many creative ways to call her a slut. On every Mischief Night (night before Halloween), the Baxter house gets toilet-papered. This time, Eve is ready to defend and fight off anyone sneaking around. But Mandy says that their house was only targeted because she was popular in high school. Now that Mandy is in college, she claims it won’t happen anymore because Eve is not popular. Eve walks out on the conversation. Having your house toilet-papered is far more than just a prank; it is a sign that people care about you. Mandy realizes that she hurt Eve deeply. To avoid Eve being disappointed, Mandy attempts to toilet paper the house herself. Eve is still on the lookout and catches Mandy in the act. Mandy apologizes, and Eve admits that sometimes she teases Mandy out of jealousy. The sisters make up. Then they wake the next morning and find that the house has been toilet papered – by Eve’s JROTC team!
